Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court have granted a remand application to remand a 30-year-old male suspect in relation to an alleged murder incident at Town ground area on 9 July 2022.

It was alleged that the suspect was chased by the deceased and others. The suspect swung his right hand with a small knife in his hand and landed on the deceased’s body.

Director National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Chief Superintendent Leonard Tahnimana says, “There was no motive behind the killing. Suspect only feared for his own safety since he thought that he was outnumbered after he slapped his girlfriend and her relatives saw what he did and chased him.”

NCID Director Mr Tahnimana says, “Post mortem has been conducted on the 21-year-old deceased and pending medical report to form part of the investigation.”

“My condolences to the immediate family members for their great loss. We pray for comfort during this dark time,” says Mr Tahnimana.

Investigation in the murder incident is continuing and police appeal to people who witness the incident to provide information to the police.

The suspect was charged with one count of murder and will appear again in Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 25 July 2022.
