Police arrest a 20-year-old male suspect for attacking a 40-year-old male victim with a piece of timber in Makira-Ulawa Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira in Makira-Ulawa Province have arrested and charged a-20-year-old male suspect for allegedly attacking a 40-year-old male person with a piece of timber at Kirakira main market on 15 July 2020.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “The suspect and other boys have attacked the victim with a piece of timber.
PPC Sitai says, “It is further alleged that the suspect and other boys also punched and kicked the victim which caused serious injuries to his arm and face. The victim was admitted at the Kirakira hospital for further treatment.”
Superintendent Sitai says, “The suspect was charged for Grievous Bodily harm contrary to section 226 of the penal code. He was released on bail and will appear before Kirakira Principal Magistrates’ Court on 30 July 2022.”
Mr Sitai says, “Following this incident, chiefs of Wainoni and Santa Ana with the help of the police held a reconciliation meeting, to resolve the matter in a traditional way of making peace with both parties on 17 July 2022.”
“Appeals to the general public and members of the two parties to refrain from the issue and respect the initial settlement. Anyone who might have information regarding the matter can come forward and assist police with the investigation,” says PPC Sitai.
He says, “Other suspects are yet to be arrested and police are calling on them to surrender themselves to Kirakira Police Station.”
