EOD team destroy 38 UXOs in Choiseul Province

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have destroyed a total 38 Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in Taro, Choiseul Province this week.

Commissioner RSIPF Mr Mostyn Mangau said the EOD team managed to render safe those UXOs found during the clearance work on the Taro airstrip in the past weeks. UXOs render safe were ranging from projectiles, mortar bombs and bombs.

Commissioner Mangau said before the render safe operation happened the EOD team sought consent from the Choiseul provincial government to destroy those UXOs.

Mr Mangau wishes to thank the Choiseul Province Permanent Secretary as the caretaker of the province and also would like to thank the Taro police officers for the support rendered to our EOD team.

Not forgetting our Taro surrounding communities for working together with the police on this operation. It’s not easy to deal with such an operation but I must commend you for working together on the duration of the operation, Mr Mangau further added.

He said since Taro Township is under ‘category A’ we must be careful and report any suspicious materials lying in your area to the EOD team while they are still in Taro or report it to Taro police.
