Police arrest a-38-year-old father for rapping his 16-year-old daughter in Guadalcanal Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 38-year-old father for allegedly raping his own biological daughter in east central Guadalcanal.

RSIPF Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau said the rape incident happened since last year 2021 and reported to police on 12 August 2022.

Commissioner Mangau said it was alleged that the rape incident happened in different dates and times since last year 2021. After police received the report they went to the village of the suspect and arrested the suspect.

Mr Mangau said the suspect was charged with three counts of incest contrary to section 163(2) of the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act 2016.

He said investigation is still continuing and the suspect is currently remanded at Rove Correctional facilities. The suspect will appear in Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 1 September 2022.

As Commissioner and a father I strongly condemn this act. This will affect the victim emotionally, socially and physically. The suspect is a father and his sole responsibility is to take care and have dignity for her biological daughter and not to have sexual intercourse with her.

A family is a small heaven where a father should protect, provide and act like a priest for his siblings. Instead, he rape her own daughter and this is very disturbing, Mr Mangau added.

I appealed to my good people in the east Central Guadalcanal (Aola area) to come forward to the police and provide more information around the matter.
