Two male suspects arrested for kwaso brewing in Malaita Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki have arrested two male persons for making kwaso (homebrew) at Siwai village on 13 November 2022.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Leslie Kili says, “The arrest has been done after police received information from the community about the homebrew.”

PPC Kili says, “Police raid the residence and arrest the two suspects and collect all the cooking utensils for homebrew making. Street values of all items about SBD $5,000.00 if sold.”

Superintendent Kili says, “The suspects were placed in police custody and charged for restriction on making liquor section 50 of the liquor act.”
Mr. Kili says, “Christmas is coming closer and police will go tougher on those who intend to distill homebrew in our communities.”

He says, “I would like to encourage communities not to be involved in such illegal behaviour as Auki Police will step up with their work leading up to the festive season. Therefore, it is timely that those involved in such illegal activities refrain and reflect on good deeds as we are approaching the festive season.”

"I would like to appreciate the hard working officers for their courage and commitment in ensuring that illegal brewers will be dealt with," says PPC Kili.
