RSIPF acknowledges people in Auki for support during motion of no confidence in Malaita Province

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) commends the people of Malaita for Supporting the police maintain the peace, law and order within Auki town during the Motion of No Confidence (MONC) against the Honorable Premier of Malaita Provincial Government, yesterday (7 February 2023).

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Superintendent Leslie Kili says,” I would like to commend the young and elderly people who took responsibility to support and assist police in making sure Auki Business centre are protected from the protesters.”

“Working together with our police officers in such situation shows community have good relationship and confidence in police and stopping crime from happening is everybody’s business.” PPC Kili adds

“The Police has demonstrated its capabilities in dispersing the protesters who had resorted to rock throwing towards Police officers.”

PPC Kili says, “Hand held smokes was used and managed to disperse protesters where they had to retreat. There was no tear gas, no rubber bullet and live rounds used to disperse the protesters. Three live rounds image claimed to be left behind by police during the clash with people’s power yesterday in today’s Solomon Star paper was incorrect. It was accidently fell from the pouch of one PRT officer during the incident yesterday.”

“No Police Response officers had injuries as claimed in social media during the rock throwing yesterday.” PPC Kili adds

“Level of force used during the incident yesterday is minimal purposely to stand against the protesters that had threw stones to them while engaged in their lawful duties.”
PPC Kili says, “I’m warning the public to refrain from forming rumours or giving false information that can be misleading on social media.”

Superintendent Kili appeals to the public in Auki to respect our laws, remain calm, and allow democracy to rule.
