RSIPF women’s take part in international women’s day in Honiara

Female RSIIPF Officers march down to Town Ground

More than 100 plus Women Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) took part in the march alongside other women in Honiara to mark International Women’s Day, today, 08 March 2023.

Chief of Staff (CoS), to the Commissioner of Police and Chair Lady for the RSIPF women Advisory Network, Ms Laisalyn Mua highlighted that the police is committed to the gender equity and progress of women in the police force.

Speaking to RSIPF women at Rove Police Headquarters the Chair lady of RSIPF Women’s encourages women in policing to be role models not only to other women’s and girls’ but to the community that we are serving.

“Today is a very special day for all women and as women in policing play a very special and important role within the police force as women. Today we celebrate the achievement and contributions towards a safer Solomon Islands and better society. I commend you for your hard work,” says Ms Mua.”

She adds: “I want you to be role models for women and girls in the community, stand up for what is right to make this country safe.”

Commissioner RSIPF Mr. Mostyn Mangau says, “We have women in high leadership positions and also frontline, which means no role is off limits. There are women in various aspects of the RSIPF and I am proud of that and can say the police are promoting gender equity.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “Today is a very important day, not only for the country and for women across Solomon Islands, but also for the police force because we embrace equity and support the progress of women through the organisation.”

“We are very committed in making sure the police force is a reflection of the community here in Solomon Islands. We work very hard on making sure our officers are available to meet and work with women in the community on issues affecting women and girls,” adds the Commissioner.

Mr Mangau says, “Violence against women and girls in Solomon Islands is a significant problem and I would like to encourage men to take responsibility for their role in ensuring the safety of our women and girls.”
