Kirakira Police conducts awareness talk at Manita village

Over 800 people including women and children have attended and listened to a police awareness talk conducted at Manita village in Central Makira this week (12 March 2023).

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “The awareness talk covered health issues related to consumption of kwaso (homebrew) and smoking of marijuana.”

PPC Sitai says, “The awareness talk also makes it clear to the people of Manita on criminal charges related to planting of marijuana, brewing of kwaso, selling and consumption of the kwaso product.”

Superintendent Sitai says, “Brewing of kwaso, planting of marijuana and domestic violence has become a great concern for police in Makira-Ulawa Province today which officers work tirelessly to deal with."

Mr. Sitai says, “Community leaders are advised to formalize a crime prevention strategy and By-Law as a way forward to deal with issues that arise at the village level.”
