Man hit his wife with a hammer arrested

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo Police Station have arrested a man for hitting his wife with a hammer last week.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu said the de facto couple had an argument at home and following the argument, the defendant used a hammer and hit the victim’s head.

PPC Lenialu said an initial medical report confirmed the skull was fractured and internal bleeding occurred. The victim was rushed to Helena Goldie Hospital where she was further referred to Gizo Hospital for further medical attention.
Chief Superintendent Lenialu said this is a sad incident where the deceased died with a five months old foetus in her womb.

Mr Lenialu said police are working closely with the relatives of the deceased for the autopsy to be conducted to form part of the investigation. The suspect were remanded at Gizo Correctional Facility and will appear in court on a later date.

He expressed his condolences to the family and relatives for the loss of their loved one and I appeal to both parties to refrain from taking the laws into their own hands. Allow police to investigate the matter.
The defendant and his wife were living at a Village in Roviana Lagoon, Western Province.
