Kirakira police conduct SARA model training for CPC members at Manita village

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Kirakira Police Station have conducted SARA model training for the Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) members on 17 April 2023.

SARA-Scanning, Analysis, Response and Assessment (SARA) Model is a familiar process of conducting problem-oriented policing.

SARA-works with the idea that police alone are not able to stop crime and using community resources is more effective for incident driven policing. The Kirakira Police is utilising the SARA Model with the concept that police alone are not able to stop crime and using community resources is more effective for incident driven policing.

The training will equip the community leaders to advance their critical thinking skills as a way to mitigate some contemporary issues arising in their Communities.

The participants were encouraged to participate in group discussions as a way to test their ability and effectiveness about team work given all the issues arising in the community which requires team effort rather than individualism approach.

The training has given an opportunity for the chiefs women, youth and church leaders to participate including a few teaching staff from Manita primary and secondary school to learn new ways to manage crime.

The Manita community is now looking ahead for the official launching of their Bye-Laws coming up later during the year.

Police have established more than 100 plus crime prevention committees in Makira-Ulawa Province and the end result has been positive when it comes to crime.

Many leaders in Mikira-Ulawa Province now started to notice reduction of antisocial activities used to happen in the community. Hence, they feel the urge to encourage all members to support each other towards sustaining peace and harmony.

The spokesman for the participants thanked the police for the timely training and assured police as they will do their best to put into practice what they have learned.
