RSIPF investigators will boost its capabilities on economic crime investigation with the expertise from CPLT

Investigators of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) will boost its capabilities on economic crime investigation provided by China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) during a four days training this week.

The four days training on economic crime investigation started yesterday (1 May 2023) which was officiated by Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence Ms. Patricia Leta at Rove Police Headquarters.

AC Leta said training is an effective tool to upskill our knowledge on how we deal with our day to day business. You are so privileged to attend these training with the expertise from CPLT.

“I believe this training will be a fruitful one and also want to urge the participants to share your experiences and ask questions so that your doubts are answered during the four days training,” said Ms Leta.

She said attending such training will help you to understand the ways and what to look for to build your cases for court. I know we have gaps especially in our legislation but it is important for us to know some of the basics to deal with these emerging crimes so that when you are confronted with such cases in the future you will know how to deal with them.

The Crime and Intelligence boss said the training will help investigators to understand the illegal acts committed to obtain financial or professional advantage. It may involve dishonesty practices mainly on finance.

“They are known as white collar crimes and they can cause economic cost to victims. The motive of economic crimes may have multiple or secondary motives,” said AC Leta.

During the official opening, Deputy Team Leader (TL) Mr. Xu said the increase of economic crime rate is an inevitable problem in the process of national development. With the characteristics of novel criminal methods, secret criminal means and great criminal harm, most countries regard it as a key crime type to fight and prevent. In particular, some economic crimes involving the public like money laundering will affect social stability and even endanger national security.

TL Mr. Xu said CPLT hopes to maintain regular cooperation with RSIPF in this important area. I hope we can have close exchanges and cordial cooperation in this training, and jointly maintain this precious friendship across the Pacific Ocean.

The topics that will be covered during the four days training will be on
• Introduction to current economic situation in China
• Introduction to economic crime investigation
• Proof and evidence for investigating economic crime and investigation of contract fraud cases
• Measures for investigating economic crime and investigation of contract fraud cases.
• Investigation of criminal cases of counterfeiting currency and money laundering investigation.

The economic criminal investigation is undertaken by Officer Zheng Xiaoren, who has more than ten years of working experience in the front line of economic crime investigation in the People's Republic of China.
