RSIPF Officers Put Through Hard PRD Selection Program

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers who applied to join the Police Response Department (PRD) have undergone a selection program at the Rove Police Headquarters.

The selection program is one of the first assessment gateways for RSIPF officers wishing to join the PRD.

Two (2) female officers were among 39 male officers made it to the program out of more than 100 applicants from Police officers all over the country.

Participants took part in a harsh 24-hour process that involved challenging exercises and scenarios that were designed to test the officers’ physical, mental and emotional fitness, with an emphasis on teamwork.

The selection program included a fitness assessment, health assessment, 400-metre ocean swim and other tireless and challenging activities that were designed to test the participant’s physical and mental strength.

Fitness trainers and medical personnel closely monitored the candidates for the duration of the selection program.

One of the officers who took part in the selection program was Clive Tanito. Clive has been with the RSIPF since 2016.

“The selection program was challenging and tough. I wasn’t ready for it but thankfully we made it to the end,” Clive said.

He said during the selection course the participants were expected to maintain a high level of discipline and obey the course staff’s every command.

Clive said the hardest part of the program for him was the log and bag carrying exercise where they carried heavy weights up hills and down valleys.

“I almost gave up during the log and bag carrying exercise but my mindset helped me to overcome these challenges,” Clive added.

Officers who completed the selection program and were assessed as suitable will commence a PRD Basic Operators Course and if successful, will be eligible to fill new vacancies within the PRD. This recruitment process is part of expanding the RSIPF capabilities.

The selection program is supported by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) through its partnership program with the RSIPF, RSIPF & AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP).
