Police Minister opens PPCs and Directors’ Conference

The Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Moses Garu today opened the one-week conference of the Provincial Police Commanders and departmental directors of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

The Conference is the second for this year, is being attended by 27 Provincial Police Commanders from all the provinces and Honiara City, and departmental directors from the RSIPF Headquarters in Rove.

The conference is to review the RSIPF’s Annual Business Plan and the Work Action Plan for this year. The PPCs and Directors will also discuss and develop the 2018 Annual Business Plan.

“This is a very important conference as this is the first such conference since the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) ended in June this year,” says Minister Garu.

“During the last PPCs and Directors Conference, lots of issues have been highlighted especially on the standard performance and the challenges faced by the RSIP in delivering services to the community.”

“It is therefore important to note that all of you who are here as leaders of RSIPF are to ensure that the plan to develop will reflect the needs of our people and communities,” says Minister Garu.

He adds: “This week will be a very busy week for all of you to prepare, interact and discuss the way forward and many issues of importance and I encourage you all to work together to achieve your goals. I hope by the end of the week you will achieve your goals.”

Minister of Police, Hon. Garu explains, “The Strategic Direction and the Annual Business Plan that you will review is crucially important as it will reflect the Government’s Policy Statement. Both the Ministry and the RSIPF are working together to achieve this.”

During the conference, the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services will present on the functions of the Ministry and Government priority issues including the proposed National Security Policy.

A guest speaker, Dr Dannielle Watson from the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji will also address the Conference on the training that has been offered by the University to police officers from Solomon Islands and other Pacific countries in the areas of management and strategic policy development.
