Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Tigoa in Renbel Province have conducted an enquiry in relation to a suicide incident.

A 22 year-old male person hanged himself in a house near an old mining camp in Rennel Island on 25 June 2023.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Renbel Province Inspector Eddie Peseika says, “Initial report stated that the deceased had an argument with his elder brother the night before the sad incident happened.”

“The body of the deceased was discovered by some boys in the early hours on the same day of the incident. The boys cut off the rope used by the deceased and alerted Police about the incident,” PPC Peseika said.

Inspector Peseika said, “External examination has been conducted and forms part of the police investigation. Parents and relatives have agreed that it is a suicide case and decide not to take further investigation.”

Mr Peseika says, “My condolences to the immediate family for the loss of their loved one.”

He said it is good to seek advice from responsible authorities, Church leaders and community elders during challenging times to find solutions to your problem rather than taking your own life.
