Kukum Traffic Police attend vehicle accident in Central Honiara

Kukum Traffic Police in Honiara have arrested a 39 year-old male involved in an accident at Lengakiki Road in Central Honiara on Sunday 8 October 2017.

“The driver of the silver white caldina car was tested by traffic police using a breathalyser and his blood alcohol was 0.139% which was above the prescribed level of 0.050%,” says Deputy Director of Kukum Traffic Centre Hugo Maelasi.

Mr Maelasi adds: “The driver had been formally charged with three counts including allegation of careless driving, presence of alcohol in person’s blood above the prescribed level” and driving without a driver’s license, released on bail to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrate Court on 31 October 2017."

Police are also investigating the circumstance as to how the vehicle being driven by driver as to ascertain should there be evidence of permitting to drive.

It was alleged the incident occurred in the early morning of Sunday 8 October. The car was not travelling at high speed. The car hit posts at the roadside and forced its way into the fencing of a private house close by and rested there.

Police once again wants to remind the general public if you are planning to drink, don’t drive and if you drive don’t drink and also pedestrians do take extra care when using the roads.
