Police arrest five suspects for alleged rape and defilement in South Guadalcanal

A total of five male suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape and defilement of a 13-year-old girl from Saegolona Village near Haliatu in South Guadalcanal.

Two of the suspects have arrested for allegedly raping the victim and other three male suspects have been arrested on allegation of being parties to the offence in assisting the two suspects to allegedly rape the victim.

Police in Guadalcanal Province and officers of the Police Forensic Department attended the incident which allegedly took place at Ngalichulu Village, near AvuAvu on 15 October 2017 and arrested the five suspects.

“The suspects are now in police custody and are waiting for application to court for remand,” says Provincial Police Commander, Guadalcanal Province, Nixon Manetoga.
“Police investigations are continuing into the incident and we would appeal to members of communities in Ngalichulu, Haimarao, AvuAvu and Saegolona near Haliatu Village to come forward with any information on the alleged incident.
