Police arrest a 22-year-old male suspect for damaging state property in Malaita Province

Police in Auki have arrested a 22-year-old male suspect for damaging a theodolite, a survey equipment used by surveyors working in Auki town on 18 October 2023.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Leslie Kili says, “The survey equipment used by a land surveyor working in Auki was destroyed when the suspect suddenly showed up angry and allegedly kicked the machine causing it to fall onto the ground and broke into pieces.”

PPC Kili says, “The equipment is an expensive item that cost the government more than 100 thousand plus dollars.”

PPC Kili says, “The suspect was arrested and charged with one count of wilful and unlawful damage contrary to section 326(1) of the Penal code and one count of Common assault contrary to section 244 of the Penal code.
The suspect was bailed to appear in Auki Magistrates court on 27 October 2023.
