NTD investigates fatal accident at Kukum heights

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Traffic Department (NTD) are investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred at Kukum heights early hours on 21 October 2023.

NTD Director Superintendent William Foufaka said that the bus was on its way to pick up Heritage Park (HP) Hotel staff at the Kukum heights with a few staff already on-board.

According to witnesses who were present at the scene, the bus rolled over whilst it was parked on the edge of an elevated location.

“The accident took the life of a young female who was an Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) student doing her practical at the HP Hotel. The female tried to jump out from the rolling bus which unfortunately caused her death,” said Director Foufaka.

The bus driver was arrested and will be charged accordingly as soon as the investigation is completed.

“Drivers please be reminded that you are responsible for the life of your passengers whenever they enter the vehicle you are driving. Make sure to always park your vehicles where you know it is safe,” emphasized Mr. Foufaka.
