Police in Honiara have started its Zero Tolerance Operation in the capital to ensure members of the public are safe as the country prepares for the Christmas festivities.
“We started this operation last weekend with great success. Thirteen suspects were arrested and nine drivers were arrested for drink and drive offences. This included the suspects arrested in connection with the armed robbery incident in Panatina Ridge during the weekend,” says Commissioner of Police, Matthew Varley
Commissioner Varley adds: “This operation will target the illegal sale of alcohol and the sale and use of the illegal brew, kwaso. Police will not tolerate such illegal activities because it’s unlawful and that the consumption of kwaso causes a lot of social problems and health issues within the communities.”
“Operation Zero Tolerance is part of the RSIPF’s Crime Prevention Strategy to ensure our people feel safe on our streets and as Christmas approaches families can celebrate in a peaceful environment,” says Commissioner Varley.
He calls on members of the communities to respect each other and if people are planning celebrations, they need to take into consideration the welfare of their neighbours.
“Police cannot be everywhere at the same time but we would like to call on every one to take responsibility for each other and to feel free to call us if you feel you need any assistance,” says Commissioner Varley.
