15 RSIPF Officers in Makira-Ulawa latest recipient of 5 step mindset challenge training program

Makira Ulawa Provincial Training Coordinator, Sergeant Audrey Suhata, delivers training to his staff.

Fifteen officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Makira-Ulawa Province are the latest recipients of a 5 step mindset challenge training program conducted recently.

New Zealand Police, under Solomon Island Police Support Program (SIPSP) advisors, alongside the Provincial Training Officer (PTO), Sergeant Audrey Suhata delivered the Training.

The training was positive and well-received, with staff saying they appreciated learning about the decision making tool the ‘self-test’ which teaches values and ethical behaviours when police make decisions within the community.

Course attendee, Inspector George Fafale said, “We must all demonstrate the values and execute our goals, so we can achieve our mission and vision of a safe, secure and peaceful Solomon Islands.”

SIPSP advisors were impressed with the delivery of some of the modules by Provincial Training Officer Sergeant Suhata, who showed great passion, enthusiasm and professionalism throughout the training.

Attendees also received a half day refresher training from the Provincial Family Violence Coordinator, Alison Meatalau.

SIPSP Team Leader Inspector Warwick McKee said “It is really pleasing to see the RSIPF PTO delivering the training to their own colleagues. It ensures sustainability and a dedicated trainer for each province when SIPSP and RSIPF trainers from the Learning and Development team are not present in the provinces.”

The training is well received and focusses on the RSIPF being the best that they can be each day to ensure that the community receives the best service delivery possible from their Police.

We observe great engagement and participation from the RSIPF receiving this key training with their focus on Crime Prevention to reduce harm and victimisation.

SIPSP and the RSIPF are well on their way to ensuring that all RSIPF staff undergo the 5-Step Mindset Change Training with training scheduled to be delivered in the coming months in Central, Renbel and Temotu Province.
