Police arrest a 34-year-old male person for illegal sale of kwaso (homebrew) in Western Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 34-year-old male person for illegal sale of kwaso (homebrew) and restriction on making liquor in Gizo, Western Province on 1 January 2024.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The arrest has occurred after police received information from the community about illegal sale of kwaso and restriction on making homebrew in Gizo.”

PPC Lenialu says, “The 34-year-old suspect from KoIiai village in the Sortland Islands has been arrested and placed in police custody and dealt with.”

Chief Superintendent Leniali says, “Few containers of kwaso have been confiscated during the arrest and kept as exhibits for court.”

Mr. Lenialu says, “The suspect has been charged with two counts of illegal sale of liquor contrary to section 57(1) and restriction on making liquor contrary to section 50(2) (c) of the Liquor Act (Ch.144).

He says, “The suspect was released on principal bail to appear before Gizo Magistrates’ Court on 15 January 2024.
