The Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Gabriel Manelusi met with heads of security companies in Honiara on 21 October at the Rove Police Head Quarters to discuss the Crime Prevention Strategy.
“The meeting was to discuss how these private security companies will be able to assist to prevent crime in the national capital Honiara as part of the Crime Prevention Strategy that is being also rolled out throughout the country,” says Deputy Commissioner, Operations, Gabriel Manelusi.
Deputy Commissioner Manelusi adds: “I am pleased with the attendance of the meeting by heads of some of the security companies during which they expressed their willingness to assist the police roll out the Crime Prevention Strategy in Honiara.”
“I am appealing to other security companies, who did not turn up the meeting to attend any future similar meetings,” says Mr Manelusi.
One of the participants at the meeting, Joseph Baetolingia, a former Assistant Commissioner of Police now working for Tongs Corporation Security says, “I am pleased and feel touched by the presentation made by the Deputy Commissioner. This Crime Prevention Strategy is the heart of the efforts to address crime in the country. Every one including our leaders, should come together and take ownership of this Strategy.”
Another participant, Mr. Patteson Maegonia of Solomon Islands Elite Protective Agency says, "I appeal to the relevant authorities to enact a regulation for private security companies in Solomon Islands to ensure the companies met security standards.”
All the participants at the meeting felt that the Crime Prevention Strategy is the right approach towards working together to build a peaceful, safe and prosperous Solomon Islands.
