PTOs in Honiara for one week training program

Provincial Training Officers (PTOs) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) attended a one week training in Honiara starting today (12 February 2024).

The RSIPF Learning and Development team (L&D) and the New Zealand (NZ) Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP) commenced the second Provincial Trainers week-long training workshop at the Training Academy at Rove police headquarters.

The Course brings together the RSIPF PTOs and exposes them to advanced training that they can take back to their province and deliver to their RSIPF colleagues and peers.

The Training includes first aid, crime prevention, mind-set delivery training, planning and preparation training for the National General Election 2024(NGE24) in April.

Most of the PTOs are Non Commissioning Officers (NCO’s) and leaders within Police and have valuable experience in operational policing and training delivery.

SIPSP Team Leader (TL) Inspector Warwick McKee said, “This specialised training allows the RSIPF to bring the PTOs together to share ideas and learnings and to allow some training expertise to be taken back to the provinces and delivered to the RSIPF across the Solomon Islands.”

Inspector McKee said, “This week will expose the Provincial Training Officers to prevention work and community engagement and messaging so each province will be best equipped to provide crime prevention and reassurance to their respective communities with each province prior to the NGE24.”

TL Inspector McKee said, “The community engagement by the RSIPF in the provinces will build trust and confidence in the Police by the communities they serve. By working in partnership with their communities and stakeholders will allow for a safe NGE24 and in turn ensure the election runs smoothly and securely.”

The course was officially opened by LD Director Superintendent James Teilo, Assistant Commissioner Corporate Stanley Riolo and Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City Jimson Robo.
