NCPD begins awareness talk on election related offences
Every Solomon Islands citizen were urged to work together with the Police to provide a safe, secure and peaceful synchronize National General Election 2024 (NGE24), a statement highlight during an awareness talk in Honiara by the officers of the National Community Policing Department (NCPD).
Director NCPD, Superintendent John Matamaru said the awareness talk was conducted at Savo market, White Rive market 01 and 02 bus stop last week with a good number of people attended.
Director Matamaru said as part of the RSIPF proactive in readiness for the joint NGE24, the NCPD will conduct a series of community engagement and now we have started in West Honiara.
Superintendent Matamaru said it is crucial to deliver clear message as part of the proactive initiative that would later extend across the whole of the Solomon Island regarding preparedness for the coming General Election.
“This year election as we all aware will be exclusive as it coincides both provincial and National Election,” Director Matamaru said.
During the awareness talk, NCPD and Solomon Police Support Program (SIPSP) officers told registered voters that they have the right to make their own choice on who they should vote for to represent them in parliament.
Officers urged members of the public to report any incident where individual police officer deemed to be supporting any particular political parties or individual candidates.
The team also told the market vendors that police will support electoral officials and will respond appropriately to any breaches of electoral laws, reports of voter intimidation and threats to election process.
Electoral offences and penalties were amongst the topic delivered during the awareness talk.
