Communities in east and west Makira are the latest to set up their CPS and drafting their bye-laws
Communities in east and west Makira are the latest to setup their Crime Prevention Strategy (CPS) and drafting of their by-laws.
The setup of Crime Prevention Strategy (CPS) and drafting of by-laws has happened when officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira visited 12 communities in east and west Makira.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Most of these communities are from ward 18, 19, 20 and 5 in east and west Makira constituencies.”
PPC Sitai says, “Most communities have come to realize the social importance of having CPS and bye-laws. CPS is important given the reasons that it will help police investigate and study all conditions and situations that induce and encourage crime.
Superintendent Sitai says, “In the long term it will help to make recommendations relating to practical crime prevention programs and legislation that will assist them in establishing effective programs within their jurisdictions.”
“In their responses, most community leaders have acknowledged the effort of the team to respond to their long-time desire to have such strategy and bye-laws,” says PPC Sitai.
Mr. Sitai says, “The leaders have pledged their support to work alongside the police as the only way police and community leaders would work in partnership to control antisocial behaviours at the community level.”
