DC Vaevaso assure voters in WP that police will ensure the election process is carried out peacefully and successfully
Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support (NSOS) Mr. Ian Vaevaso of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have assured voters in Western Province (WP) that police will ensure the election process is carried out peacefully and successfully.
The assurance was made during his provincial visit to the WP last week as part of the community engagement program of the RSIPF in preparation for the joint election 2024.
DC Vaevaso says, “The purpose of conducting an awareness program is to educate our people on electoral act offences and penalties ahead of the upcoming joint elections.”
Mr. Vaevaso says, “Educating people of Solomon Islands of all the electoral related offences is paramount. People need to be aware of what to do and what should not be done to protect themselves from facing serious consequences of the electoral offences.”
Vaevaso further elaborate on duties and responsibilities of the public and voters starting now up until the end of the election period and as well the responsibilities of police officers. If any police officer is seen stepping out of their responsibilities please report them.
“There will be limited police officers working in WP during the election period. However, police appeal to all good people of WP, community and church leaders to work closely with police for a safe and secure elections,” says Mr. Vaevaso.
DC Vaevaso explained, “Even though the number of deployed officers to WP during the joint elections will be limited, police have emergency plans in place to respond to unexpected incidents that arise during the election period. We will ensure law and order is maintain until the end of the electoral process.”
