A 35-year-old husband attacked his wife with a bush knife at Panarui village in South Choiseul recently.

It was alleged that the husband is not happy with his wife for not preparing food for him after drinking kwaso (homebrew) with his friends.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa said, “The suspect was very aggressive and attacked his wife with the knife which landed above the victim’s neck.”

PPC Pogesopa said, “The relatives of the victim intervene and stop the husband from further attacking the victim and assist her to Sasamunga hospital for medical treatment.”

Superintendent Pogesopa said, “The suspect was arrested and formally charge for unlawful wounding. He was bail to appear before court on 7 October 2024.”

Mr. Pogesopa said, “Such action is inhuman and I condemn it. Such action should have no space in our communities. A husband should respect and support his wife in looking after his family. He should be responsible and provide for his family.”

“Domestic violence is a crime therefore I urge members of the public to support the police in dealing with it and discourage social issues that triggered such incident from happening,” PPC Pogesopa said
