Police at the Tingoa Police Station, on Rennell Island in the Rennell-Bellona Province are investigating the discovery of 19 Second World War live ammunitions on the Island.
“Police here at Tingoa Police Station confiscated the ammunitions on 2 November after they were discovered in the possession of a group of people who were driving around with them on the Island,” says Acting Provincial Police Commander, Renbel Province, Macfred Tesuatai.
Mr Tesuatai explains: “The ammunitions were confiscated and secured by police while we investigate how they came into the possession of those people and how and who brought them to Rennell.”
“We have so far received several different stories so we want to establish the real facts before taking any necessary action including any arrests,” says Acting PPC.
Acting PPC warns people in the Renbel Province that it is illegal to have in their possession such ammunition and all these should have been surrendered during the last firearms amnesty which was declared by the Government before the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) concluded at the end of June this year.
