RSIPF witness by-law launching in Makira Province

Police in Kirakira and members of the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government witnessed the launching of By-Laws of communities in East Haununu ward 20, West Makira, Makira Province on the 10 October 2024.

Marogu, Hinikawa, Hautarohagi and Aranihata communities are the latest communities to launch their By-Laws with the help of Kirakira police.

Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 20, the Honorable Fr. Emmanuel Torairamo, Minister for Education, and the Honorable Daniel Dauataha, Minister for Community Governance, were joined by Mr. David Horesi, MPA for Ward 5 and Advisor to the Makira Ulawa Community Governance Regime, as representatives of the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government.

Hon. Torairamo emphasized in his keynote address, that this is a significant milestone for the Marogu, Hinikawa, Hautarohagi, and Aranahata communities. He expressed his appreciation to the communities and the police for the commitment and dedication that enabled the successful launching of the By-Laws.

Chiefs, and community Leaders from nearby villages, from Maopa, Rea, Aruraha, and Waimarega were also invited to witness the launching.

Team Leader (TL) Makira Community Policing, Sergeant (Sgt) Audrey Suhata commend leaders of the communities involved for the great work done leading to the successful launching and further reiterates on the theme of the launching ‘community ownership’ mean every members of the community are responsible to take up the leadership role in ensuring the By-Laws effectively maintained to live a crime free environment.

Hon Daniel Dauataha MPA for ward 5 and Minister for Makira-Ulawa Community Governance Regime in his speech stated that the by-law initiative witnessed today is the foundation of the Makira Ulawa Community Governance Regime (MUCGR) you must prepare, and organise for developments to come.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa Province Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “Communities with By-Laws have to work closely with police to continue strengthening its effectiveness and allow our good people to live in a better environment free from criminal activities.”
