Police in WP train on command capability
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province (WP) from Munda, Noro, Ringi, Parakasi and Gizo have recently undergone a two-day workshop on command capability.
This operation command capability workshop conducted by China Police Liaison Team (CPLT) was first of its kind held in the WP for supervisors of different police station in the WP.
During the workshop, the Deputy Team Leader of CPLT, Prof. Zhang Bing, shared theories and practices of police operational command, and led a discussion on personal capabilities for the participants.
The workshop incorporated analysis of real case studies. Participating officers watched videos of police incident responses and engaged in discussions regarding legal compliance, tactical planning, and the application of techniques.
Scenario simulations of specific operations were conducted where officers in each group engaged in role-playing, applying what they had learned during the workshop to respond to simulated on-site situations.
Instructors observed their performance, provided feedback, and facilitated a discussion where all participants exchanged ideas on what was done well and areas for improvement.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), WP, Superintendent Wilken Miriki, appreciates the knowledge shared by the CPLT, their experience in China, and the thought-provoking comparison with WP where officers travel by boat to respond to reports.
PPC Miriki said, “The workshop has enhanced the capability of our officers to further understand on how the commanders operate and on what stage we fit in.”
Provincial Training Officer (PTO) and also Community Policing Officer, Gizo police station, Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Alick Alesena shared his most impactful takeaways from the workshop: making preliminary preparation plans, or pre-event preparation plans for emergences like natural disasters; responding flexibly to changing situations.
For the future, CPLT will continue to work with RSIPF to explore the needs of provinces and provide necessary support accordingly.
