Police appeal on vehicle owners to report damages

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) is appealing to vehicle owners to come forward and report damages to their vehicles.

Police made this call in light of reports circulating on social media of vehicles being targeted in relation to abduction reports in Honiara.

RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, said the RSIPF is aware of the current situation and is working on it, as a matter of importance, to identify any culprit and dealt with.

Commissioner Mangau said the public must respect drivers and the laws by allowing drivers to travel freely while leaving the matter to the Police to handle it.

“Allowing opportunists to take advantage of the current situation is dangerous. It will bring lawlessness in our communities,” Commissioner Mangau said.

He urged the public to help the police by reporting any suspicious activities to them so they can investigate them.

Commissioner Mangau said it is an offence to damage other people’s properties without allegations being cleared by the courts.

He said police understand people’s frustration over unregistered vehicles but there are rightful authorities responsible and these authorities too may have their own challenges.

The police chief said this is something the RSIPF is working with authorities to address this issue.
