Police in Malaita investigate assault incident during soccer match

Police in the Malaita Province are investigating the alleged assault of a 20-year-old male at Kofiloko Village, in the Baegu-Asifola constituency in North Malaita during a soccer match on 11 November 2017.

A 40-year-old man was arrested by police following the alleged incident and charged for assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 245 of the Penal Code. He was released on bail to appear before the Auki Magistrates Court at a later date.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita, Superintendent Timothy Apaesi says, “I appeal to both parties to remain calm and allow the law take its cause.”

“People should enjoy sports and not argue as it could end up with someone assaulting another causing injuries like what happened during this incident,” says Supervising PPC Apaesi

The investigation into the matter continues.
