Police appeal to fishermen to take extra pre caution

Police at Taro, in the Choiseul Province have called on fishermen in the province to be careful when diving following the death of a fisherman from Tuzo Village on Friday 10 November.

The deceased, from Wagina was at Tuzo to do diving for beche-de-mer when he went missing.

The people of the Tuzo village saw his wooden canoe floating but did not see him therefore conducted a search but to no avail. They then sought assistance from the Police to search for the person.

“Upon receiving the report, Police officers were deployed to the said area in order to carry out a search and to conduct enquiries” says Provincial Police Commander, Choiseul Province, Superintendent, Cedar Nevol.

The diseased was later found and his body was taken to Wagina village by his immediate relatives and that they are satisfied with the circumstances surrounding his death.

“I want to call on fishermen especially those who are diving to take extra pre caution when diving especially not to dive at locations that are too deep. We call on anyone who might have seen the deceased person diving to report any information that might assist police to the Taro Police Station or call the police toll free line on 999.
