Man arrested for attempted murder incident in Malaita province

Auki police have arrested a 28-year-old male suspect for an alleged attempted murder incident at Lalana village in the Langalanga lagoon on November 7, 2024.

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner, Mr. Mostyn Mangau, said several attempts have been made to apprehend the suspect, but he escaped police up on arrival.

Commissioner Mangau said it was alleged that the suspect entered his big sister’s room with a rope on his hand and tied around his sister’s neck while she was asleep with the intention to kill her.

Mr. Mangau said the victim struggled to release the rope, but the suspect prevented her by really tightening the rope around her neck.

He said the father of the victim heard a sound of struggle in the room, so he came into the room and pulled the suspect out of the victim and released the rope from her daughter.

The police chief said the motives behind the attempted murder incident are still under police investigation. The suspect is currently remanded at the Auki correctional facility for his court trial on a later date.

The sad incident occurred on 16 October 2024.
