A 30-year-old male suspect arrested for raping a person with disability in Malaita province

Auki police have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for raping a person with disability in a village in West Mbaelelea, Malaita province, recently.

It was alleged that the suspect led the victim into the bush between July and November 2024 and had sex with her on several occasions.

Her aunty noticed changes on the victim’s appearance, and she took her to the clinic for a pregnancy test, and she is positive. The victim is now under medical care at Kilufii Hospital.

Mr. Mangau said police formally arrested the suspect and dealt with and prepared all necessary court documents for his trial at Auki Magistrates’ Court on a later date.

“This is really a sad incident where this type of people we should be taking care of them. Police will not tolerate such action in our communities,” said Mangau.

The police chief reminds community leaders to always look out for individuals with special needs and remind community members to respect and not take advantage of them.
