Police arrest an aggressive suspect for an intimidate incident in Malaita province
Auki police have arrested a 49-year-old male suspect for an intimidation incident on November 18, 2024, at Koa village in West Kwaraáe.
It was alleged that the 49-year-old male suspect was drunk, very aggressive, armed with a bush knife, and threatened to kill a complainant.
The suspect did point the knife towards the complainant, walked to him, and said that he would cut him with the bush knife.
Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau said it was so fortunately that the neighbours, awoken by the disturbances from the suspect, intervened, calmed the situation, and liaise with police for the arrest.
Mr. Mangau said the suspect has been arrested, dealt with, and bail to appear before Auki Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
“The virtue of respect in our communities seems to be lost these days. This kind of incident is really sad. Good for such problems; bring it up to the right people in the communities to deal with rather than taking the laws into our own hands,” said Mangau.
The police chief said the investigation into the intimidation incident is continuing, and I ask those to stay around during the incident to assist Auki police with more information.
