Six male suspects arrest for liquor-related offences in Choiseul province

Taro police have arrested six male suspects for illegally brewing of alcohol (homebrew) at Soneke village in South Choiseul on November 17, 2024.

The arrests have been done after people from Banganoe village reported the ongoing activity of illegally brewing of alcohol in their community.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Inspector Ronald Chite, said the suspects were mostly youths, ages ranging from 19 to 27 years old.

PPC Chite said the suspects were apprehended and were interviewed for the alleged offence of restriction on making liquor.

Inspector Chite said the rate of liquor-related offences in the province is quite concerning. Most of this alleged offence is committed by mainly youths in the communities.

Mr. Chite said this is a concern in our communities, and it needs a collaborative effort from stakeholders in our communities to help curb these unwanted activities.

The provincial police chief said as we approach the festive season, I am urging our communities to be more responsible and work together with the police to make these festive celebrations alcohol-free for our people.

Suspects were dealt with and bailed to appear before the magistrate court on a later date.
