RSIPF on dark-tinted vehicles: ‘Law must be followed’

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is urging Honiara residents to follow the law that requires dark-tinted windows on public service vehicles be removed.

The RSIPF maintained that this is a law and no one should take the law into their own hands.

Earlier, the Honiara City Council (HCC) passed a by-law banning dark-tinted windows on all public vehicles licensed to carry passengers that includes buses, taxis and trucks.

The by-law is a legal notice that requires the removal of dark-tinted windows, sun visors and curtains.
The law also applied to vehicles from other jurisdictions that enters Honiara city. This includes vehicles from Guadalcanal Province.

RSIPF’s Assistant Commissioner, Simpson Pogeava, reminded taxi and bus operators that any protest against this law is illegal unless cleared by appropriate authorities.

“Any plan protest on this matter prior approval must be obtained from the Honiara City Council (HCC) Clerk in-consultation with the Commissioner of the RSIPF,” Police AC Pogeava said.

The law to remove dark-tinted windows from public transport is a response by the HCC to reports of child abduction that sparked fear across the city recently.
