Police arrest a 32-year-old father for assaulting his own son

Auki police have arrested a 32-year-old father on 12 January 2025 for assaulting his 8-year-old son at Auki, Malaita Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa said it was alleged that when the suspect had an argument with his wife, he always assaulted his 8-year-old son.

Chief Superintendent Tafoa said those incidents have caused severe emotional challenges for the child, which demand the family to report the matter to Auki police.

PPC Tafoa said the suspect was arrested for domestic violence and common assault. He was bailed to appear before Auki Magistrate Court on 27 January 2025.

“Parents and guardians, the safest place for our children should be at our homes. It is sad that a protector has become a predator in our own homes,” said the provincial chief.

Mr. Tafoa appeals to community elders and church leaders to work together with police to deal with domestic violence issues in our communities.
