With the Christmas festivities just around the corner, Police in Kirakira in the Makira-Ulawa Province together with two major stakeholders held a joint awareness talk at the provincial capital on 15 November 2017.
Police at the Kirakira Police Station along with officers of the Public Solicitors’ Office and the Kirakira National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) held the joint awareness talk covering issues including:
• Police and transport legislation (Amendments) (Alcohol testing) Act 2016
• Penal Code Amended Sexual Offence Act 2016; and
• Sea safety.
The awareness talks included presentations on the three topics as well as questions from the members of the public who attended the meeting.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira-Ulawa, Superintendent, Peter Sitai says, “Polis Blo iu would like to let the people in this province know, that your police will be doing Breathalyzer testing during the coming Christmas festivities and this will be targeting vehicle drivers.”
“As part of the police effort together with its stakeholders, we want to ensure that the people of this province have an understanding of the amendments to this particular legislations as well as the importance of safety of boat travelers,” adds PPC Sitai.
A total of about 200 members of the public from in and around Kirakira attended the awareness talks.
