Kirakira Police witness By-law launching
Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers at Kirakira Police Station in Makira-Ulawa Province have witnessed the launching of the Muu Community By-law in Central Bauro (Ward 10) on 7 January 2025.
This event was successfully implemented through the continuous effort and support from the Kirakira Police Station’s Crime Prevention Unit and the positive response from leaders of Muu community.
The launch came after a comprehensive conflict resolution training conducted for all community leaders on 6 February 2025, in preparation for the implementation of the by-law.
Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Central Bauro, Hon. Julian Makaa, Minister for Community Governance, Daniel Dauataha, and the provincial legal advisor were among the guests.
Hon. Makaa thanked Muu community leaders for the initiative in supporting police and the provincial government through establishing their by-laws.
He promised to assist communities within his ward in whatever they need for good governance.
Team Leader for the Crime Prevention Unit, Sergeant Audrey Suhata, said by-laws are not a new concept or approach for the people of the Solomon Islands.
“Our forefathers had them (by-laws) in place as measures to maintain law and order within communities way before the present,” Sergeant Suhata said.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Sergeant George Fafale, said it is good that people begin to understand their roles and responsibilities in assisting the work carried out by the police.
“I encourage all community leaders to further communicate the importance of by-laws down to the youths and children, as they are the new generations that need to fully understand the by-laws and their importance in providing a harmonious community,” Sergeant Fafale said.
