Royal Solomon Islands police Force (RSIPF) officers in Auki, Malaita Province, have arrested and charged a 19-year-old male person who allegedly sell homemade spirit (Kwaso) at his village.
Malaita Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Michael Ramosaea confirmed police in Auki responded to a report of the suspect and his movements.
The suspect was about to board a public bus, with the illegal products, when police arrived and apprehend him.
The suspect was taken to the Auki police station where he was formally charged with selling liquor without a license, contrary to section 59 (2) of the liquor Act.
Superintendent Ramosaea said those who produce and sell kwaso must stop before they get caught in their planned operations.
“Producing, and selling, of homemade spirit like kwaso must stop. Police will mount operation raids across the province aimed at targeting illegal Kwaso outlets,” Superintendent Ramosaea said.
He thanked communities that continued to support their work and urged other communities to do the same by reporting suspicious activities related to illegal alcohol production or sales.
“Police will remain dedicated to enforcing the law and protecting communities from dangers associated with illegal alcohol,” Superintendent Ramosaea said.
