Police arrest and charge a man for having multiple Sex in Choiseul Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Taro Police Station in Choiseul Province have arrested and charged a male suspect for allegedly having multiple sexual intercourse with his niece at a village in Northwest Choiseul.

Choiseul Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said these incidents occurred on different dates and locations between January 2023 to January 2025.

According to PPC Pogesopa, initial report shows the first incident took place when the victim was 14-years-old.

The last incident occurred on 21 January 2025, when the suspect took the victim and escaped into the bush and had sexual intercourse with. Members of the community conducted a search for the victim and found her with the suspect. A report was filed at the Taro Police Station and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was charged with the offence of Persistence Sexual Abuse of a Child Contrary to Section 142 of the Sexual Offence Amendment Act 2016.

PPC Pogesopa said the suspect is currently remanded at Gizo Correctional Services awaiting to appear in court on the later date.

He said investigations into this matter is ongoing therefore appealed to any person with relevant information to come forward and assist police with their investigation.
