Police arrests a father for incest

Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) officers at Lata in Temotu Province have arrested a father for committing incest with his daughter.

The arrest comes after the 14-year-old daughter reported the matter to her mother who refer it to the police.

According to reports from Lata police, the father committed incest to the daughter in four occasions at different times between 2022 to November 2024. The first incident occurred in 2022 when the victim was only 11-years-old.

No one knew or had any suspicion of what was going on until the fourth incident. These incidents came to light after the victim left their home and sought shelter at her relative’s home.

The young victim revealed what happen after her mother persistently questions her as to why she left their home. During the same week, the victim’s younger sister also informed their mother that she was also a victim.

The suspect is currently admitting at Lata hospital. He sustained injuries after stabbing himself when police officers attended the report.

Temotu Provincial Police Commander, James Toaki, said it is unfortunate and concerning to see the rise in horrific incidents like this when homes and parents should be the safest place and people for kids.

“To victims and witnesses of similar incidents, we ask you to come forward and let police deal with crime perpetrators,” PPC Toaki said.
