Police remands 26-year-old male for rape in West Are’’are

Police officers in Auki, Malaita Province, have recently remanded a 26-year-old male person for allegedly raping a 27-year-old female at West Are’’are.

The victim was feeding her family’s pigs when the alleged suspect raped her.

The incident occurred on 10th January 2025 and was reported to the police days later. The arrest was delayed when the suspect flees his village but subsequently, police arrested him.

Upon arrest, the suspect was remanded at Auki Correctional Centre awaiting his court appearance at the Auki Magistrate Court.

Malaita Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa, acknowledge community leaders and members for their support which led to the arrest.

“It is indeed our collaborative efforts that create a safer community for our elders, children and vulnerable individuals,” Chief Superintendent Tafoa said.
