Police in Gizo, in the Western Province are searching for a missing male person in his 30’s who was travelling from Sagheraghi village, Gizo Island to Vonunu in Vella la Vella Island on 20 November 2017 and failed to arrive at his destination.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “According to the witnesses the missing person was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was travelling by himself.”
PPC Lenialu adds: “His fiberglass canoe and other belongings were found outside of Kolombangara Island by a canoe that was travelling from Choiseul to Gizo and reported the matter to police.”
“Currently Police officers at Gizo are engaged in the search and so far there has been statements obtained and that his immediate family has been notified and an enquiry file has been opened,” says Chief Superintendent Lenialu.
“I want to remind the general public who are travelling in out-board motors to consider weather forecasts that are issued by the metrological services before embarking on any trip. Think safety first before travelling to other islands and more importantly do not drink and drive OBMs.”
