Police in Guadalcanal Province have arrested a 40-year-old suspect in relation to the death of a young girl at Avuavu in the Weathercoast area of South Guadalcanal which was reported to police on 17 November 2017.
The suspect was arrested by police at the Marau Police Station after being invited from his village at Haliatu on the Weathercoast of Guadalcanal. The suspect is expected to appear in the Central Magistrates Court in Honiara tomorrow.
It was alleged the girl went missing on 14 November after attending Bubutasi Primary School in Avuavu and her parents have been searching for her until 17 November 2017 when her body was found in a bush inland of Avuavu lake called the Churuna area.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Nixson Manetoga says, “We're waiting for a medical report on the deceased before we are able to say anything on the cause of death.”
“As the Provincial Police Commander of Guadalcanal, I call on every people living around Avuavu area in the Weathercoast to assist the police with whatever information as police continue its investigation,” added Superintendent Manetoga.
Mr Manetoga says, “I appeal to parties involved into the sad incident not to take the laws into their own hands and let the police investigate the matter.”
PPC Manetoga appeals to the community around the Avuavu area to come forward and provide information that would help Guadalcanal police in their investigation.
