Malu’u police arrest a 28-year-old male suspect for the murder incident

Malu’u police in Malaita Province have arrested a 28-year-old male person on 1 May 2025 following the death of a 63-year-old man at Ruagao village in North Malaita.

It was alleged that the suspect got angry following a land dispute issue between him and the deceased.

Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau said he went to the deceased's house and attacked the deceased with a spade.

Commissioner Mangau said he struck the deceased on his head and face, which caused severe injury to the deceased's upper body, and he was later pronounced dead.

Mr. Mangau said Maluu police attended to the incident and apprehended the suspect, taking him to the police station and dealing with it.

Police intervened to prevent the deceased’s party from retaliating further after they had killed three pigs belonging to the suspect’s party, allowing the law to take its course.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code and is now remanded at the Auki Correctional Centre awaiting his first court mention on a later date.
