Four women arrested for selling liquor without a license in Malaita province
The liquor unit at the Auki police station has arrested four adult women for selling liquor without a licence at two villages in West Kwaio, Malaita Province, recently.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Chief Superintendent Tex Tafoa said the liquor unit officers received information regarding the sale of liquor without a licence from concerned community members and effected the arrests.
PPC Tafoa said the suspects were already charged and released on principal bail to appear before Auki Magistrates’ Court on 27 May 2025.
Chief Superintendent Tafoa appealed to the communities within west Kwaio to refrain from such illegal activity.
Mr Tafoa said selling alcohol without licences is an offence. It is very sad to note that women were involved in such illegal activity. This is a main key driver of crime in our communities.
The provincial police chief said we have a liquor license board established in Malaita. Therefore, if someone wishes to venture into such a business, they should apply through the board responsible.
Community leaders and individuals, report to your nearest police station any illegal activities that are occurring in your communities.
