The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) officers at the National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD), together with the Solomon Islands Police Support Program (SIPSP), held a two-day sport event with the Burns Creek community recently.
The event offers two sports (football and volleyball) to be played during the two-day community engagement program.
The finals fall on the second day of the program, with the winners from both sports, including second, third, and fourth place teams, being awarded for their sportsmanship and participation.
RSIPF was well represented by members of NCPD and Burns Creek residents entering a combined football team.
The real benefit for police is engagement and creating a stronger tie between communities and their police service.
Community elders, leaders, and RSIPF were united in creating a partnership that will not only focus on crime prevention but also support each other during times of need.
Chief Peter Iromea and Community Leader John Tasa were gracious hosts, ensuring that the community and police were fully engaged in the event.
Sport has been proven a great ambassador in uniting people for a common cause. In this case it was about sharing sport and food and strengthening ongoing engagement between communities and their police service.
RSIPF through NCPD is looking forward for other stakeholders, business houses, faith-based organisations, NGOs, other government agencies and individuals to come forward and be our partner in our policing effort, together we stand, divided we fall.
